Allen is a village in Dixon County, Nebraska, United States. It is part of the Sioux City, IA–NE–SD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 411 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 411 people, 166 households, and 111 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,096.5 people per square mile (428.9/km²). There were 180 housing units at an average density of 480.2 per square mile (187.8/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.03% White, 0.49% from other races, and 0.49% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.97% of the population.

There were 166 households out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.4% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.1% were non-families. 26.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.05.

In the village the population was spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 23.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.6 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $34,000, and the median income for a family was $40,521. Males had a median income of $30,341 versus $15,769 for females. The per capita income for the village was $15,264. About 1.8% of families and 4.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and 11.2% of those age 65 or over.
